Empowering African Students to Analyze Public Policies and Shape Better Solutions
The Arab Center for Research (ACR) invites university students from across Africa to participate in the Public Policy Bootcamp, an initiative designed to promote critical thinking, strengthen policy analysis skills, and encourage young people to contribute to public policy discussions in their countries.
The program provides an opportunity for students to examine real-world public policies, assess their impact on society, and develop practical recommendations for improvement.
About the Public Policy Bootcamp
Public policies influence many aspects of everyday life, from education and healthcare to employment, economic development, governance, and environmental protection.
Through this initiative, the Arab Center for Research encourages young Africans to explore these issues from a critical and constructive perspective.
Participants are invited to select a specific public policy implemented in their country, examine its objectives and outcomes, identify its strengths and limitations, and propose evidence-based recommendations.
No previous experience in public policy analysis is required. The program welcomes students who demonstrate curiosity, analytical thinking, and a genuine interest in addressing challenges facing their communities.
What Is Expected from Participants?
Applicants are invited to prepare a video presentation of no more than 10 minutes, focusing on one specific public policy in their country.
The presentation should address four key elements:
- Present the Policy: Introduce the selected public policy and explain the problem or challenge it was designed to address.
- Analyze Its Impact: Examine its effects on citizens, communities, or the country’s economic and social development, highlighting relevant outcomes.
- Evaluate Its Effectiveness: Assess the policy’s achievements, limitations, and challenges. Explain whether it deserves continued support, further investment, expansion, or reconsideration.
- Propose Recommendations: Present practical suggestions to strengthen the policy, address its shortcomings, or explore alternative approaches.
Applicants are encouraged to support their arguments with concrete examples, relevant data, and reliable sources whenever possible.
Who Can Apply?
The Public Policy Bootcamp is open to university students from across Africa who are interested in public policy, economic and social development, governance, or other issues affecting their societies.
Applicants do not need specialized academic knowledge or previous experience in policy research. What matters most is their ability to develop thoughtful arguments, critically assess public policies, and communicate their ideas clearly.
How to Apply
Interested students should submit their applications by email to contact@arabcr.org, including the following:
- Recent Photograph: A recent photograph of the applicant.
- Short Biography: A brief introduction outlining their academic background, interests, and motivations.
- University Affiliation: The name of their university or higher education institution.
- Video Presentation: A video of no more than 10 minutes analyzing a specific public policy in their country, including an assessment of its impact and recommendations for improvement.
Why Participate?
The Public Policy Bootcamp offers students an opportunity to develop their analytical and communication skills, engage in meaningful discussions about public policy, and contribute fresh perspectives to the challenges facing African societies.
By connecting academic knowledge with real-world policy issues, the initiative seeks to encourage a new generation of critical thinkers capable of evaluating public decisions and proposing constructive solutions.
